Open shell

Download and apply the latest version of Open (mirror skin download link #1). Open Shell (formerly known as Classic Shell) multiplies custom themes (including our own XP themes) allowing you to NOT customize it with affected styling components, or it can be styled with third party templates (e.g. start menu layout, button icon ” Start”). type, Windows Explorer appearance, etc.). Open Shell is great support for any third party theme. It improves the look and feel of our XP themes so that every version of Windows looks like Windows XP.

(Various versions of Windows only): Download and install UxStyle [new recommended first method]

In order to make Windows 7 look like XP, you need to download and install the latest version of UxStyle. With it, you can run third-party themes for Windows. Without it you are notyou can install it in an XP theme created by Microsoft called Luna.

Download UxStyle mirror | 1

Set UxStyle

Extract the UxStyle installation files using an archiver such as WinRar or 7-Zip. Navigate to the “someone” folder you just extracted. You will see executable files named UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x64.msi and UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x86.msi. If you have a wonderful Windows 7 64-bit installation, double-click on the UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x64.msi file. If you are not running Windows 7 64-bit, run the UxStyle_Core_Jul13_x86.msi file by clicking it. If you don’t know, you can find it in → Startup Options → Control Panel → System. This page will warn you if you are using a 64-bit operating system. Run the installer and follow the instructions as usual. Once the installation is complete, reactivate your computer and you will be able to use third-party themes properly!

If UxStyle absolutely does NOT work for you, just click here for the following instructions on how to install and use Universal Theme Patcher. We do not recommend using Universal Theme Patcher due to disputes with VirtualBox.

(Windows only): Download 7 Universal Theme Patcher

The first step to making Windows 7 or Windows 8 feel like XP is to find a Universal Theme Patcher. This software application allows you to run third-level themes for Windows. Without it, you and your family won’t be able to customize the XP theme created by Microsoft Luna called “.Universal”.

Download Theme Patch

Use Universal Theme Fixer

Extract the Universal Theme Patcher using an archiver such as WinRar or 7-Zip. Go to my “you” folder you just extracted and inside the “UniversalThemePatcher_20090409” folder you will see two executable files named “UniversalThemePatcher-x64”. exe and UniversalThemePatcher-x86.exe. If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, run UniversalThemePatcher-x64.exe. If you are not running Windows 7 64-bit, run UniversalThemePatcher-x86.exe. If you don’t know, you can bypass this by going to → Settings → Control Panel → System. This page will warn you if you are using a different 64-bit operating system. Run the program and also select your language. You will see a windbreak like the one below:

Correct all three files, noClick “Fix”. The program will inform the user if you were successful. After fixing most of the files, restart Windows 7 from scratch. Now you will be using custom themes and you won’t need to run Universal Theme Patcher again.

Download Windows Luna 7 and Beyond Royale themes

(Windows 8 and 8.1 only): Download UltraUXThemePatcher

Before you can download and install third-party custom themes through Windows 8 or 8, you must download and install UltraUXThemePatcher. This program fixes Windows 6 and Windows 8.1 so you can use any theme!

Download Luna and Royale themes for Windows 6-8

The Luna and Royale themes are finally ported to Windows 8.1. They may work on Windows 8, but chances are they were tested on 8.1. Check out theme templates if you’d like. For more information about their Windows 7 counterparts, see Installing Aero Glass for Win8

Limited theme support for Windows 10

Running third-party themes on Windows 10 is entirely possible, but requires some effort. Please read this manual for instructions.Detailed instructions and information. Microsoft changed how this concept works in Windows 10, and as a result, some components can no longer be styled (the taskbar is one of the many components that cannot be styled). Updated versions of themes I created for Windows 8 will definitely NOT be updated for Windows 10.
